Long Spinney

Volunteers restore beautiful woodland to public use

Long Spinney is a beautiful area of woodland and meadow of about 5.7 hectares (14 acres) on the north side of the village, set within a network of paths and open space.

The land is owned by Buckinghamshire County Council and used to be open to the public as part of their Countryside service. But it fell into disuse after concerns about health and safety forced the County to close the routes through the spinney.

99-year lease

So Wing Parish Council agreed to adopt the site and, in 2015, obtained a 99-year lease on the land from Bucks County Council.

Since then, a group of dedicated local volunteers has been working to restore the woodland to public use.

More volunteers

Long Spinney is now open to the public for the village and visitors to enjoy.

But there’s still lots more work to do!

If you’d like to volunteer, then please contact the organisers.
